Debt collection and bankruptcy statistics in 2024 - Continued increase in bankruptcies in 2024
Neuchâtel, 8.4.2025 - The total number of bankruptcy proceedings opened against businesses and individuals under the Debt Enforcement and Bankruptcy Act (DEBA) rose for the fourth year in a row, reaching a record 17 036 cases in 2024. Closures of bankruptcy and debt collection proceedings also rose compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, there was a marked decrease in financial losses resulting from ordinary and summary bankruptcy proceedings compared with 2023 (‒26.5%). These are the latest findings from the Debt Collection and Bankruptcy Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
